How to wire new 3rd brake light
Hi, I just purchased the final piece to complete this money pit, one of those R2D2 type looking 3rd brake light and am now at the point to connect the wires, one to ground and the other to a brake light wire, naturally in the back (?). Ah, can anyone direct me how to find the brake light wire? Yeah, I know, what a dumb question! Is it in the engine compartment or under the car? Do the wires run from the front to the back of the car on the drivers side or passenger side. Does one wire feed both rear brake lites (right and left) or are they each fed on separate wires from the front? Is there a color coded wire I should look for? Okay, when you get done laughing at these dumb questions, can you help me out? OH, it's a 1977 911 with a 86 3.2. Could it be already wired for the light and just have to find the wires to plug into? (probably not, huh?)
Thanks, Robert Faust Redwood Shores, CA |

I didn't do anything fancy when I installed a CHMSL on the rear window of our '83, just found which wire in the left rear fenderwell went to the brakelight, spliced into it and grounded the circuit.

If your brake light switch is at the pedal, just ground one side of the light and run a wire up under the carpet to the pedal switch. Couldn't be easier.

It's alive and working!
Thanks guys, not bad, posted the question and within a short time span I got the help I needed. Couldn't get any better than this. This is the finale piece I will be putting on this car, from now on I will just drive it until it dies although I think everything has been fixed, corrected or replaced.
Thanks again everyone, this is a terrific site, I'm very lucky to have found it. Robert Faust |

Commonly most people wire the 3rd brake light from the left side rear tail light and tapping into the power wire.
Do a search but these should help: Wiring 3rd Brake Light - Pelican Parts Technical BBS How to: 3rd brake light install - Pelican Parts Technical BBS
