Should I remove the Smog Air Pump?

Do I still need it? I'm in there working on the heater motor, etc. Should I get rid of that stuff, and just save it for just-in case? Will I need to block off any places that it connects to? No emission checks needed here in my city,(for now).

(For off road use only of course)

You do not need it for maintaining smooth performance--it is soley for burning off emissions at the exhaust ports. If you remove it, there is a check valve just below the tin at the rear of the engine. If you leave the check valve in place, then you can remove all the top side hardware without issue and you don't have to get under the car to remove the piping to the exhaust ports (requires removing the heat exchanges, in most cases) and plugging the tapped holes. The check valve prevents exhaust gas from blowing back into the engine compartment with the piping still in place. And yes, keep the pump and hoses for when you need to sell.

Definitely keep the pump, they are getting hard to find and expensive. If you ever see to some one in a state that requires emission testing they will need it to pass the visual inspection.

if its on a 2.7, do it as soon as you can, because the heat build up in the heads by that system helps promote the head stud pulling issue that requires a engine rebuild.

don't confuse the smog pump with thermal reactors on the 2.7

Rweb - doesn't the pump put the air in the reactors? Mine were removed, but I thought that was the case. So removing the pump effectively stops the reactors from working right? I JUST GOT SCHOOLED!!!
