I got rear ended on the way home last night

There is some obvious damage to the lower valance around the tailpipe. On the other side it looks like the bumper shifted slightly to the left. But that is just the cosmetic stuff, what things should I make sure that the body shop / mechanic look at to make sure everything gets fixed? Should the impact absorbers be replaced or if the shop say they are fine should I trust them to not be cutting corners to save money?

Thanks for any input. I've been through accidents before but never in anything I was this worried about getting totally fixed.

Take it to a Porsche dealership if at all possible.

I was rear ended a couple years ago with very similar looking damage. Valance, both bumper shocks, both bumper pads, labor, paint=$3K+ Bumper shocks and pads were $400/each at the time.

If I were you, I'd get the estimate and then fix it myself. The valance can probably be straightened.

btw - I removed all the parts off of my car and they're sitting in the garage. Two bumper shocks and two pads are yours for cheap.....very cheap.

Fiberglass an upgrade? What would that have looked like if the bumper was FG, I wonder...

Thanks for the advice. I went to the doctor yesterday to make sure everything was ok as my back was / is bothering me a little bit. She said that everything looks ok but if it doesn't get better by early next week to follow up.
I am still waiting to hear from a claims adjuster what with the weekend and all but I am planning on pushing to have a dealer do any repairs, or at least generate a list of what is wrong for the insurance company. The agent I talked to when I reported the accident to them tried to convince me that Gerber would be able to correctly evaluate any potential engine / drive train damage and has the skills to repair any issue they found.
Thanks for the offer Don, I may take you up on it after I see what the shop says is needed.
Thanks for the tips.

My thoughts as well. I spun in the carousel at the track at about 65 MPH and hit the wall backwards with my car. I rode up on the pile of tires. When i got the car nback to the paddock and got out to look at the damage, I was amazed to find that the only damage was to the right rear fender extension (behind the rear tire). There are tire marks on my bumperettes and I plan to leave these there as a reminder.

The rear bumper system on these cars is awesome. I was expecting to see 3 - 5000 in damage and got away with under $200 in damage and was back on the track for the next session.

It would be nice to drop the 40 lbs that a FG bumper would allow for but I like the utility of the stock bumpers.
