Anyone ever try to re-solder a Weber float?
Went to start my 911 over the weekend and it was only hitting on five cylinders and gas overflowing through one bank of the Webers. I figured a stuck float or bad needle valve. Upon inspection I found a brass float was drowning in the float bowl. I removed the float and found only a slight crease at the bottom and only a little dampness. So slight that it would not drain on the bench now for three days. I ordered a replacement from Richard but can't bring myself to toss it. I drilled a very small hole in the top and drained the float.
What's the secret to re-soldering these two areas? Heat the brass hot enough to accept the solder? |

Once you KNOW that the float is clear of fuel and any vapors, you can resolder it.
Make sure you thoroughly clean and degrease the areas you wish to solder. Carefully apply some flux on the places you wish for solder to flow and use an iron, not a flame to heat the brass. Apply some acid flux solder and voila', that should do the job if you prepared it correctly.
