964 Suspension Issue

I am hoping Bill V. or someone can figure out my issue described below.

1990 C4. The other day I noticed that my front spring was rotated out of position i.e. the upper tang is not in the matching spot on the spring seat, this is on both driver and passenger side. I thought this should be corrected, so I put the car on the hoist to remove the struts....

Only to find that with the suspension at full travel (dropped) my springs are completely unloaded. They have at least 1" of vertical play. So, obviously any time I remove the load from the front suspension while driving, the springs are free to move around. Not good.

Normally the strut would restrict the travel, obviously mine does not. My car is not really low, and I certainly don't want to raise it an inch to keep the spring loaded.

I think the springs are factory, not lowering springs. I am a bit confused now.

How to fix?

What condition are your shocks in? I have seen the coils safety wired to stay in position under full droop. What color are your springs?

Why would the condition of the shocks matter?

The issue is the rebound length, isn't it? So unless there is a rebound bumper inside that has disintegrated, the 'damping' is unrelated to this.

Let's hope the PO didn't cut the springs...

The springs should always be in compression and ought to need a spring compressor to get slack

here is what it ought to look like

Sounds liike a perfect opportunity to upgrade the shocks , 'while you are in there'

These are the pieces that you should have

I've seen Eibach springs loose like that, but not on a Porsche.

Move to the front of the class. Someone flame cut both springs. Fail. Struts have no gas and very little damping. Minor rust repair turns into major league cha-ching I guess.

Open to spring/strut suspension suggestions that will improve handling. From Pelican obviously.

Maybe these:

Pelican Parts - Product Information: 965-343-531-01-504-M100)

And these:

Pelican Parts - Product Information: VE3-5277H2-M12

One of your links is just springs the other is just struts, you need both. You probably need rear too, especially if you change the front spring rates.

which shock spring set you should get depend on how you use the car.

I like Bilstein all around for a general use car. RoW M030 springs are good too, but again it depends
