Car from Hawaii?

A friend is interested in a car that was in Hawaii for the last five years. I myself always try and get vehicles from "dry country" and it's my inclination that Hawaii doesn't qualify. Having never travelled there, am I missing something? Is that different from being right on the coast anywhere else in the Lower 48 ? I know as someone from Texas, I don't want any cars coming from the coast here.

Many thanks,

R.

salty ocean air = rust. Unless car was religiously washed and garaged.

I had an old VW beetle there and it was fine. Depends where you are living and where you go. No salt on the roads in winter, that is for sure.

Salt air anywhere... bad.

Parents had a friend with a Lincoln, lived near coast in CA. Even the chrome on the dash, inside window surrounds had rust spots. Car was washed at least weekly and garaged always.

FWIW.

The islands have mirco climates. So it really depends on where (on any particular island) that the car 'lived.'

As others have said unless its been pampered sea air means rust. How old is it. I went all to way to New Mexico from German to get my 80´s 911 for that exact reason "Bone dry"

Car is a 2003 model.

I guess, the only way to be totally sure it's OK, is to pass on it and find what we are really after. I haven't seen it myself, but it obviously concerns me.

Thanks fellas !

Let me know if I can help as I was born and raised in Hawaii.

I was originally from Hawaii. I would definitely look well for rust. There may not be salt on the roads for winter, but the winter is big wave season and the air is permeated with a salt mist. Cars can rust out quickly there.

One thing for sure. The heater should be like new, never used.

It all depends on how the car was cared for. A 2003 996 should be fine. I bought a 99 996 that wasn't well cared for and it had no rust issues. If you can get an address where the car was, or what town, I can give you more info.

agreed, an '03 should be in pretty good shape...unless the PO is some "Ice" dealer who lives next to the water.

Garage
Normally anyone who can afford to live on the water and can afford a Porsche, can also afford a garage.

Truly I have seen no ill effects on any cars here as a result of living in the middle of an ocean.

Hey, I'm not an ice dealer!
