6Jx15 Fuchs Tires?

Requesting some suggestions for our stock 71 911. After having Harvey Weidman touch up the Fuchs I'll obviously be needing tires. I do not want to modify wheel wells etc. but would like a bit more meat on the ground rather than the 185 70 15 that I currently have.
What tire sizes will work for our cars in stock configuration?
What brands/styles would you recommend?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. My wife and I are new to Porsches and bought a barn project that we are enjoying. My auto knowledge is with mopars and I need mucho advice.

Thank you,
Curt

i run 205 50 15s on my narrow car and they fit well and handle well. theres are a little short for some guys but we like the look lowered just a bit. there are other 205 sizes out there.

nice car good luck

I have the same rims on my 74 and I am running BFG G-Force Sport tires in 205-60 15's. The car sticks very well.

I used to run 205/60-15's but I went to Yoko 205/55-15's (I like the shorter gearing for Autocross).

The 55's are fine but my speedo reads high and my odo runs slow. The 60 profile tires were much closer to correct.

Thanks for the responses. Price is a concern but I want to do it right. I don't think track driving is in the future. This is really our Sunday drive. I've learned that as odd as it may seem, working on vehicles is good therapy. Driving those that you've worked on is even better.

The 205 60 15 seem to be the way to go for others on this very helpful forum. I'm sure it will work for me. Considering our driving style I would probably be happy with just about any tire brand but I am leaning towards the Bridgestones.

The car hasn't moved in 16 years, we find ourselves rushing but I am anxious to see it on good shoes. What do you think "Porsche Speed Yellow"?

Thanks again,
Curt

15" has more sidewall flex for same size and model than a 16

you can get a high end Bridgestone and be more street comfortable than a 16", but unless you do serious highway runs it won't matter

maybe pick the thread pattern you like and go from there?

personally I think the Bridgestone stands up to looking good when old compared to most others

different strokes

FWIW I have 195/65-15 Bridgestone RE960AS on my 15x5.5 steelies:

A little more tread on the ground cf. a 185/70-15; lookwise a fair compromise between classic taller sidewalls and modern, lower ones.

I probably should've gone the 205/60-15 route but don't have a set of 15x6 wheels. I do have a set of 15x7 Fuchs to be refinished, however I'm not sure the 195s will work on them.

My car has 205/60 x15 BF Goodrich G-Sports as well and I love the look as well as the handling.

tires

205 60 15 on General Altimax RT which were pretty inexpensive and feel great

***** I feel like Playa sharing this but here goes ... I got $70 discount because General were having a 2fast2furios Part 63 promotional offer at tire rack, that almost put me off but I have to say so far the feel and handling is great. General are owned by Continental and made in the USA.

Tire size calculator

Hi Curt,
Congratulations on the barn project purchase! Looks very nice!

Here is a tire size calculator if you want the specifics:

Enjoy!

195/65/15 is a very good size and will keep your speedometer most accurate. Falkens are a great bang for the buck. Good luck.

Love the 2.2 targas! 205 is probably the biggest on 6" rims. 50 series for more acceleration, but 60 series look a little better (imho) and are closer to stock diameter. I personally run the 50 series for the accel. I like the kuhmos. Pretty cheap and stick pretty well. Go to tirerack.com and search. That should keep you busy for a bit.

As far as color, what is the original color? That would be my first choice. Second choice would be your favorite period correct color. Third choice is whatever makes you happy!

Now let's talk about those front bumper over rides...

Welcome to the addiction!

I run 205/60/15 BFG G-force on my 15 x 5.5 Steelies. The tires are great! Sticks really well and the 60 series fills in the wheel archs nicely.

Do you have any pics of that setup? I thought I was pushing it with 195s on the 5.5s but apparently not!

Thanks,
Ed

I can second that.

Thank you very much for the pics and advice. As you can probably see this was my first visit to this forum. What a great site. Reminds me of a motorcycle forum I use for my bike rswarrior.com.

I'm sold on the 205 60 15. Now on to the sales racks.

The front bumper things whether stock or not have to come off. The mirrors I assume are aftermarket. We are going to clean them up and give them some time. The pics really don't depict how filthy the car was when we first brought it home. It had accumulated 2" or rodent feces in every crevice.

What about the exhaust? Can any of you gurus identify? (hence the attached pic). Is it worth keeping? I plan on trying it I just can't seem to identify it's make.

The original color was a pastel blue. I actually liked it but wife wants the yellow and our agreement was to be at least a porsche color. Hence speed yellow.

Thank you very much to all.
Curt
