69T hot rod or stock?
bought a 69t with the original engine and transmission(4speed),repainted,a lot of parts are missing, all stock brakes and suspension
so is it worth to fully restore a 69t or just hot rod it |

Depends...Running gear is running gear. You can pick that stuff up just about anywhere. If the body/tub is in good shape with out any major rust then I would say restore (since you have the original motor and tranny). Many of the trim pieces and all were unique to the '69 so if you have them than that will save you big bucks on the restoration. If she is really rusty then hot rod away.

If it is very straight, restore it....if it is not, hot-rod it. I bought my 71E roller (engine in a box) to hot-rod. Already had a fresh 2.7 hotrod motor to put in it. Turned out to be an 80K miles, numbers matching, no rust, no accident or body work example, that got side-lined with an engine fire and put into storage. I had the local paint/body guru come out and tell me that it was the absolute straightest, early 911 body he'd seen. I decided it was too nice to hot-rod and went down the resto path. It is turning out beautifully.
Note: If there is a downside to making a beautiful, stock early 911, here it is......I am more of a hot-rod guy, so that bug has not gone away. During the resto process, I'm already thinking of my next project.........hotrod for sure.

Tough question. A nice hot rod is an expensive car to build and becomes highly personalized. This severely limits the pool of future prospects when the time to sell comes. It also can become dated actually lowering its future value. Think Miami vice mods.
A stock well done early car on the other hand has a larger audience as well as a greater upside for the future as far as appreciation. I have one of each and I know the haircut I will take on my hotrod!

but that is the far upper end of hot rodding
a driveable, lightened, powerful hot rod can be created for a lot less than a restoration -- esp. for the shape this car is in right now ("a lot of parts are missing") a concours T is just not going to yield the $$ that will make it 'worth it' - which was the original question |
