LOL, that was pretty good, esp. the removal part.

I used to do something like that on my old 914s. Except cut the belt off (while the car isn't running!), slide the new one on as far as it could go, then start the engine and voila, the belt pulls itself into place.

Had I only known, I would have saved myself 5 minutes of my time. I replaced the belt on my 87 911 this weekend. That would not (or could it?) work on a belt with the proper tightness.

That looks like a great way to loose a finger or two.

It does work on properly tightened belts. I have seen other looneys do it on 911s and Mercedes but only putting it on by starting the engine.

Yes, I have cut a belt off, an rolled a new belt on...

Not on a running engine... I either turned the engine over by hand, or cranked the starter to get the new belt on

Hey, in no way do I condone this either, but I thought it was worth posting - it's funny... Probably takes a loose belt to begin with, and the new one may not last as long as it should either !

Very slick...

You couldn't do that on a Porsche you cared about but on an old VW... Why not?

A friend of mine was working on a VW motor, the owner was in the car, my friend yelled: "do not turn the motor over." So what happens, my friend checks the belt, owner turns engine over, friends finger wraps around the pully.
