Doubt concerning rim width
Can I put 195/65-15 tires on a 15x7 rim ? Or are they too skinny ?

I think Bill is saying yes to both questions.
They will fit the rim since they're 15" but yes, they are a tad skinny. 205-60 would be a better choice IMHO.

The factory size for my 88 on the front 15x7 is 195/65-15's. They fit just fine on the seven's. I put 205/60-15's and they were better and are virtually the same height as the 195's.The rears are factory sized at 215/60-15. Can the tires ever be too wide
![]() ![]() I have changed to 17's due to limited tire choices on the 15's. Not much in 15" sizes anymore.

I'm moving from 16" back to 15". Despite limited tire choice I want a more "relaxed" ride.
I bought 15x7 rims all around, so now I can choose between 195/65 or 205/60 at the front. I'm thinking of the skinnier ones as they probably make the steering lighter while parking and a tad more "agile"... At the rear I'll go for 215/60. |

A more relaxed ride is what I was after too when I went back to 15's also.
I think you've got a good plan going skinnier if that is what you want the car to 'feel' like. I once went from a 205-60 on a 6x15 to a 195-60 on a 6.5x15 and the steering feel was great. This was on a '67 912 by the way. Let us know how it works out.

yes, 195/65 fits on a 7" rim
here's a pic ![]() Is it too skinny? depends on what else is on the car and how you use it and what you expect from it

Prebordo,
I have 7X15 rims on all corners of my 73T. One pair came with a nearly new set of 195/65 tires which I mounted on the front, the other pair have 205/60's and are on the rear. It's very difficult to tell the difference, visually, unless you look for it and the speedo is still nearly right-on in accuracy. You should have no problems with that combination, but be careful if you choose the 215/60 for the rear--you may have clearance issues with the fender, depending on your ride height.

My car has 25 y/o 185/70-15 pirrellis on it now, that was the size in the 70's. I like the look of the skinnier tires especially on older 911s I think it helps distinguish its age. I am looking at new tires now and will have to go to the 195/65 just because no one makes the 185/70 anymore.

I just bought a set of 15x7 cookies and was concerned that 195 at the front was too skinny.
But yesterday I read in Peter Morgan's 944 book that early ones had 185 tires on 7" fuchs ! At the back, 215's will be ok as I have flares. |
