Question Torque sequence for heads

I am in the process of removing the heads from my 75 911 S in order to have new valve guides installed.

1. Does anyone have a diagram of the sequence in which the head studs should be removed/tighned?

2. Also, should I mark the cam sprocket/chain in relation to where it is at TDC? I assume I will have to time the camshafts anyways on reistall.

Many thanks!

Hello

It doesn´t matter at dissasembeling. There are two ways: Loosing the heads complete with the camhousing or loosing the camhousing and then the heads.

If you not have the 10 mm hexagonal P 119 tool you better remove the camhousing first as you then have direct acces to the headbolts. You have to remove the rocker arms as they cover screws.

Mark all parts ( especially the moving ) and sort them in there position.

Thigthening is done in 2 to 3 steps and you start diagonal then over cross. Only 4 studs per head so it isn´t very head scratching.

Thumbs up

Thanks Roland, wasn't sure whether removal required the same amount of attention as installation. I just finished removing them before reading your reply and I used a cross-diagonal patern per each head (removed complete with cam housing.

I am happy to find that all head studs look good (by eye anyway).

BTW- I fabricated the tool by cutting a chrome hex key and inserting it into a 10mm socket.

Thanks again!
