Injectors/Wur/Gauges

75 CIS.

When the fuel pump is on and the engine is not running should the injectors be spraying?

I was checking injectors for volume and spray:

The engine was NOT running and was cold, and a fine (very fine) spray was coming out of the injectors. I am thinking that at rest (air plate closed) that the injectors should not be working at all. Is this a true assumption? Would that indicate that the CO idle adjustment is allowing the fd to put pressure to the injectors? Or does that indicate that the wur is off?

I have a set of gauges, when i connect them do i have to replace the crush washer on the wur? If so where do i get them?

not necessary to replace copper washer. fuel should not be spraying with the engine not running. check to see if you sensor plate is stuck in the housing under the rubber boot. i have seen issues with rust in the fuel tank fouling the fuel distributor causing the pin inside the dist. to stick on. lots of the older cars have fuel tank issues contaminating the system. to find out if you have rust in the system pull out the fuel tank sender and look inside with a flashlight.

thanks for the reply

If the fuel supply is clean is there an adjustment that can be made?

yes you can see if the plate is centered and if it's in the proper position. sometimes after a backfire the plate will hang up in the edge of the housing i would look there first.

+1 on both points--crush washers and fuel spray.

You should be able to remove the fuel line to the wur without removing the wur fitting. Use two 14mm open end wrenches and use one to hold the fitting tight while using the other to loosen the nut on the fuel line.

Fuel spray could be from a stuck plate as described or a misadjusted plate. Bottom line, you need to carefully check the function of the plate in the throttle body. Do a search on how to inspect and adjust the position of the plunger plate.
