80 SC Distributor Orientation

I need to verify my distributor is oriented properly and the sparkplug wires are in the right order. There are several good posts on how to do that (firing order, CCW rotation etc.) and I have what I need except for one thing. All the posts talk about orienting the rotor at #1 TDC to a notch in the distributor. Is this notch the same as the orientation notch for the distributor cap? I am talking about the roughly 1/2" long notch that aligns the cap to the distributor body.

In other words is #1 wire on the cap the wire that is at this notch?

Thanks

Kinsley

No - the notch in the distributor is about as wide a pencil line on a piece of paper. I'll look for a picture and post it.

This shows a rev limiter rotor, but I think you get the idea.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1256995998.jpg

Perfect. That helps a lot.. and explains some of the timing challenges I have been having.

BTW, what year is your car?

Thanks

I think the picture is from a 1975 with a 2.7 liter engine - same as mine, except my engine is a lot cleaner, and my engine tin is perfect.

That was it, runs like a champ now.

This is what it should look like timed per factory specs at TDC #1. Mine is an '82.
