Porsche Crest CA Smog Check

Well, my turn came up again, I needed a smog check to renew my DMV registration this year.
I have an 84 Carrera with 174k miles on the original engine. I replaced the cap, rotor and plugs. The plugs looked absolutely perfect; no oil or carbon on them.

I go to the Test Only center and the tech tells me that our beloved government is trying something new; for 2 weeks they are smog testing older car at "all most new" car standards. Then he goes on to tell me that all the cars he's tested that are 20 years and older have all failed.

Well long story-short, my car passed, which is great, but it makes me wonder what Obama is up to.

Turn came up again huh? Just like two years ago and two years from now..... notice a pattern? CA smog is required every two years. While I believe Obama is up to lot's of bad things, CA smog is not one of them. He has nothing to do with smog tests in CA. Your test center is also giving you bogus information. There is no reason a 3.2 Carrera shouldn't pass smog tests. There would be no reason for a "two week test". They get the actual numbers from evey car they test. They could simply compare the emissions from any car to any standard they wanted to.

Glad your car passed, have fun driving it in the great SoCal weather.

I have a 1985 Targa that was just smogged at a Test Only station and passed with flying colors (after not being driven much for a few years). Oh, my car has 243,242 miles - Many more mile of happy motoring for you...
