Why would my car's ride height be this far off side to side?
My car has over an inch difference between the driver's side and passenger side ride height. My first guess was that years of lugging around just a driver has made it start to sag to that side, but I'm sure there's more to it that that. What's the usual cause of this to happen? I'm asking because I want to replace the 225/45's with 225/50 tires on the back, to have the proper factory rolling diameter. But I don't see that inch+ difference in tire fitting in that driver's side wheel well. Also, besides a proper speedometer reading, what will having the right (inch+ bigger) rolling diameter do for my car--a touch better acceleration I'm guessing, right? Slightly lower RPM for any given speed? Thanks!

What are the actual dimensions? Hard to tell from camera angles.
How's the front, side to side? Measure center of wheel to bottom of fender lip. Will give you a pretty good idea. I see it's a Targa, what year? Pretty easy fix, but not for the casual carport mechanic. IMO. Good friend bought a car from guy, maybe 350#; L side was lower. Driver's seat later broke. What kind of car? Year? Targa/Coupe? How old is ur suspension components?
I just did a complete Elephant Racing Perf Package on mine, with Alignment and corner balance.... could be a whole variety of things. If you have a Targa you can get 1/2 inch with just Targa flex. You can have a weak bar, weak bushing... even bad corner balance can cause some variation. A bad tire or bad shock can cause it too. Did you check the ride height the proper way using the Bentley to rule out some of these things? Floor to fender is not the proper way to obtain a measurement. On my targa it is balanced, ride height using the protractor is spot on, ride height using the factory measurement is spot on. yet I have 5/8 inch of variation side to side. Protechnik told me it was probably targa flex and tire variation but not to worry about it because everything else was correct, aligned and balanced.

Usually a variation like that is from some type of accident that involved the suspension. The only real way to get everything that far off is by assembling the rear suspension incorrectly starting with the torsion bar. Much more info/pictures needed to figure out why. (The left side of the car is not low enough to have a broken T-bar, but someone might have tampered with the radius arm bolts in an attempt to lower the car).
