Post How to remove underbody coating, help !

Apparently you can lose 30/40lbs of weight if you remove the protective paint for the underside/inner wings of the Porsche 911.
I intend to only race my car, no road work atall.
Can anybody tell me if there is an easy way of getting this stuff of the car.
Or will it have to be scraper and lots of hard work.
Any help appreciated.

Look into a servive that does that kind of work. The proplem is you will need to strip the car to a shell. If you have the body fully stripped and dipped you will save more then 40 or 50 lbs though! On the DIY front, I hear deasel fuel dissolves the stuff, and I know Jasco aheasive remover will cut anything. Be carful the stuff eats skin! Alex

I can tell you how to get it off, but I can't tell you (yet) how to clean the gunk that's left off. I'm currently doing the same, all I'm using is a propane torch (watch out it stinks) and my BFS, as I have no scrapers in sight. Heat it up 'till it's soft, then scape it off. I think Wurth citrus cleaners are good for the residue gunk that's left but I haven't gotten to that yet. Good luck.

Try Eastwoods UnderGone. It takes some work with a scraper and wire brush but it does work and it is not a harmfull as most stripping agents....TargaEuro

You might try a heat gun. Lot's safer than a torch and will definetly soften the stuff up. It will take off the paint too.
