Post Stupid question: No heatexchangers, any problems?

Ok the situation is this that my car has no heat exchangers, do I take it that these are only meant to heat the car interior, so whats with this HP increase everybody talks about??

(I thought the heat exchangers "collect" the heat outside the exhaust pipes, so how does it affect horsepower?)

PO had taken those off, now it seems that it has these straight stainless steel exhaust pipes to the dual output muffler, so is this so called "power exhaust" =) ?

I don't need the heating either because I only plan to drive summers with this (We might have -30 celsius or under, sometimes in winter)

A question for those of you who have removed the metal jacket around the heat exchanger pipes.

Are the the three pipes equal length from the engine to the point where they merge into one?

Thanks

Same effect as polishing your tailpipe...0 gain in hp.

Tony, the pipes are equal length inside the collectors. Looks like a spaghetti factory in there the way the pipes bend around to get the equal length.

Equal length is true for earier cars (pre '74) but on the later cars with the crossover pipe and a single output from the HE's did not have equal length HE's.

That is the reason that people put the pre 74' HE on the later model cars.

It is not so much gain of HP as it is return. The HE's join so that they can go thru the Cat and because there is only on, and it is on the left side of the car, the length of the right side pipes are effectivly longer.
