Shipping car to Germany
I need to send a P car for a family friend in Germany. I have no clue what's involved with the shipping process, taxes, paperwork, etc. Anyone knows about export laws and what I need to do? Any help is appreciated.
Thanks! ![]() |

Contact Calship.com They are in Stanton, adjacent to Anaheim.
I've sent 7 cars to Germany and 1 to Sweden through them. They are familiar with everything it takes to get the car to the dock. What the German authorities need on their end is best to research from within Germany.

In Germany you need just the appropriate Customs paper work and the original Bill of sale. The US authorities also need the sales paparwork when clearing the car for sale so make sure you get the papers sent on to Germany before the car arrives. The car then need when passed through customs to get a certificate of Authenticity and have a technical inspection done before being registered. The only changes needed to the car if its stock is getting European H4 headlights fitted.

You need :
a clean title to ship the car out, the contact details of your family friend in Germany, depending on the age of the car you might consider to send it to Rotterdam instead of Bremerhaven. I usually use: Ablecargo 1611 S Anderson Ave Compton CA 90220 USA Toll Free 1866-655-2595 from USA or Rinkens 1800 West Walnut Parkway 90220 Rancho Dominguez, CA United States Telephone: +8888866683 Fax: +3106872822 But prefer ablecargo... |

Thanks for the info. My question is once I find him the car he wants and I buy what do I need to do with the title/dmv/etc? Obviously I don't want to register the car to my name, basically just buy it and ship it to him?

The bill of sale can be in his name and address. The owner will have to deregister it and then its up to him. A standard 20´container with door to door transport should do the job. The people organising the transport will need the original title/bill of sale on the US side to get it through customs and exported. The same document is also needed on the German side for Customs. Once the US side is finished they get DHL´d to the German side. The best cars come from dry states but the transport is more expensive. It can add up to 1000USD to get the car to the western seaboard

As my fellow german already discribed clean title and a bill of Sale do the job.
I never get in touch with the DMV, just drop the car off at the shipper, or let them do the job transporting the car to their location (last time $175) in 150 Miles around Long Beach. You might want to ask your friend if he doesn't like to organize the shipping by himself. As than he got the possiblity to handle it localy with the shipper if something went wrong. My fav is Interglobal which is very much problem free. They are able to handle it door2door, or door2habour what ever your friend likes. That would you just bring back to: find the right car and seal the deal. Everything else would be taking car off and isn't in your responsibility anymore. |
