73T - 2.7 Carrera Engine Transplant

I have documented elsewhere my purchase of a 1975 RHD Euro Carrera Targa, and the preparation of the 73T engine bay to receive the type 911/83 2.7 Carrera 210bhp engine and gearbox, complete with oil pipes and trombone cooler. It is worth reminding us that this is the exact same engine that was fitted to the 1973 Carrera RS, complete with MFI and '019' pump etc. I cannot think of a more appropriate engine to have stumbled across than this, save for an original ST engine and that would be $$$$$.

Here I will document what I can of the engine 'refresh' and installation, as this is being carried out at Francis Tuthills.

The first job was to run the 1975 Carrera and declare that the engine was running clean and well :-) The second job was to remove it and get it in to the engine rebuild room and give it a thorough clean.

The basic list of job was :-

Compression and Leakdown tests
Replace all fuel pipes and cold start pipes
Replace the large heat pipe from the heat exchangers
Replace the MFI Pump belt and adjacent tinware
Remove cam covers and inspect / torque bolts
Remove cam carrier ends and fix any leans and replace
Swap over regulator from 73T so as to keep existig dash guages (?)
Bench service the engine and static tune.
Cosmetic clean up only.
"Budget is tight but do what we can"

New superpro semi-solid gearbox mounts in the original and perfect crossmember.

More engine in progress shots :-

Finally for now, the original muffler had been repaired and was not ideal, so a new stainless (painted grey) Dansk single out silencer was purchased - funds would not run to a 3-out rallye style exhaust :-(

The engine is now fully assembled and on the cradle next to the car awaiting fitment - hopefully this will be this week and the car will be ready for collection and shakedown :-)

I finally picked the car up from Tuthills on Friday 13th :-)

Engine fully installed and running a treat. Tuthills have more pictures of the completed engine before transplant that I am waiting for.

Just need some nice new stickers to go on the rear panel there.
