speakers

Hi all

Perhaps a simple question, but the speakers on my 88 911 Cabrio are blown out, and I am trying to figure out where to find original type (Blaupunkt) door speakers. The rear speakers I found new from Pelican using the Porsche part number, but cannot seem to find the large door speakers anywhere. I would like to use the original speaker grills so do not want to buy aftermarket speakers. Thanks in advance for your thoughts...

I installed Blaupunkt GTx 542 speakers 170 watt in the front had to made 1/4 collars, cause they sit out just a bit, GTx 462 in the rear. I didn't want to alter the hole in the door panel. Original Blaupunkt Reno SQR 46 meets my needs, 88 Ce.

Believe it or not I took mine to G.A.S. and had the guys from the T.V. show "Pimp My Ride" install the same Blau's as Dan. They wanted to install all kinds of extras and couldn't understand why I just wanted the stock covers. Rather than collars they "modified" the inner plastic holder.

Thanks for the thoughts. That is the correct part number, but is no longer available. Will purchase aftermarkets and modify them to fit the stock cover... thanks again.

Had to through the memory banks, but this setup has treated me very well for the past 8 years. If Rod's not still around (hope he is) the part numbers or their replacements should still be available.

Speaker replacement

Also looks very stock, not cheesy at all. Just plain black grills on everything, and I used the original tweeter frames and covers.

sorry to hijack a bit here but can't seem to find many of those tweeters next to the window switch on an 84 Carrera. My Boston Acoustics were stolen between the towing company and the stupid Ferrari expert (long story). anyone know of good replacements?

Went with MB Quarts in my '88...not factory but great sound. needed a little modification though on the panels. Also added a nice 4 ch. amp bridged to 2 channels.

thanks.. will definitely look into MB Quartz. being a music lover I might also look into bridging a decent amp. so did you use the amp only for the door speakers?

if you are going to go all out and get an amp you may as well go all out and get new component speakers. what you can get today will blow away your stock speakers. i would suggest you look into the alpine type-x line. while the newer ones are still great i prefer the older versions. i have a pair of spx-177r component speakers in the doors and the sound is amazing when setup properly. depending on your point of view they can be perceived as expensive, but when looked at in relation to the cost of the car they are very reasonable

Also using an Alpine amp, channeled to front and back (including tweeters installed in front door panel). I would definitely recommend a high quality amp...you'll need it to hear above the sweet drone of the flat6.

Thanks again nineball & kidrock. Will think about going all out since it makes sense.
