I've found a 1975 911 Carrera on the internet, that is for sale. Does this number match up? #9115400364. The '75 Carrera is a turbo 3.0, right? Is this the same engine as an SC 3.0? I know it must have lower compression, just wondering about the reliability of the turbo 3.0. I know - turbo equals more fun but less engine miles

Here I am, caught without my Porsche book again.
But, from memory, the chassis number looks right. The 'xxx 540 xxxx' tells all. The 5 means it's from model year 1975. The 4 indicates the engine type. The 0 means it's a coupe. I can double check what engine type 4 is for that year, though I'm sure someone else on the board has their reference stuff handy. ------------------ '71 911E with Webers Golden Gate Region PCA http://www.geocities.com/edrecinto/ |

USA '75 Carrera had the 2.7 CIS engine, bad exhaust, 8:31 gearing, and 0-60 mph time in the 8.0-8.5 sec. range!

Bill, I'm bound to offend a few people with this comment but in my opinion the '75 Carrera (US) is one of the least desirable 911 models - more so if it's a California car (thermal reactors/ exhaust gas recirculation).
1976 saw the introduction of the 3litre Carrera (9116600001-9116601093) but it was not a turbocharged engine. Andy Boyle(UK) '69 911E [This message has been edited by andyjboy (edited 06-18-2001).] |

Andy & Warren thanks for the info. The price was too good, I figured it must be a 2.7 instead of a turbo motor. Andy, it is a Calif. car, so for sure I am going to pass. The car has a lot going for it (upgraded interior with power sport seats, new dash, H4's, etc) nice paint and the turbo tail. But my SC is quick and I don't think I would be happy with the 2.7. Here's the one for sale, for $11,000. http://www.autobahnparts.com/New_Arrivals/75_carrera/911_carrera_01.JPG
and here's my present ride: http://www.pelicanparts.com/pmpre/images/N11Porsche/P-Car2.jpg Thanks, again. Bill Carcot 1979 911SC Diablo Region, P.C.A. [This message has been edited by N11Porsche (edited 06-18-2001).] |
