On-Line Petition to Save Spa-Francorchamps
I picked this up from the Early S Registry; it looks like there are folks working to shut down Spa-Francorchamps. Fans of the circut have posted an on-line petition to help save the track. Please sign it, and spread the word to other forums in which you participate if you care at all about Spa. Here is a link:
Pétition pour le circuit de Spa Francorchamps I know this isn't technically a 911 tech topic, but I figured it would get its widest possible exposure on Pelican here on the tech forum.

From the website, according to the Belgian Government:
'Since the last publication of the Belgian State Council, too many people think that all the persons living in Francorchamps and all around are disturbed by the noise and are against the circuit , this is not right.' R u kidding me? after all these years, some dweeb in the Belgian government has taken it upon himself to make the world a better, safer, more sanitized place by shutting down SPA??? Christ, this PC crap world just keeps getting worse and worse. As someone who just visited, it is truly and amazing, beautiful track. Guys, think about someone in government trying to shut down Laguna Seca, Watkins Glen or VIR for the same reason. ![]() I signed it twice. U gotta fight the forces of PC dweebdom at every chance u get.

Thanks for signing guys. Yes please spread the word we need every vote we can get.
A dip**** with more time then money complains about excessive noise and a politician with more hair then brains picks it up and off we go... Mind you this is a track that is far from any real estate and only Formula 1 carries so much noise that you would be able to hear it outside of the valley it is in...go figure. What is also funny is that it is the only part of Wallonia that makes some money thanks to the tourism involved and exactly that is what they want to shut down. Michel

This reminds me of the Love Field situation in Dallas. Wealthy folks move to Highland Park (Near Love) and then complain about the noise....... The airport has been there since the '30s. They chose to move near it so live with it..... Same holds true for Spa. However, given Spa is in Wallonia, they stand a good chance to shut it down since the gov't is ultra left-wing.
Oh, and I signed it under my wife's grandmother's address in Belgium to add credibility.

Build a race track in the middle of no place. Build an airport in the middle of no place. The airport lives, while the track gets nailed... sigh
Interesting to note that as the economy started to suffer, the high handed voices of the monterey peninsula , that were so against the track, started to shut up. Yes; they noticed their lovely community turning into a ghost town. Welcome back racers! and its ok if your cars make some noise - A-holes petition signed

We were about to lose a kart/mc track in East Texas due to lignite mining. The small town told the racers they would donate land and some money to help build a new track if it happened. We love going there!

Being a belgian from the region, shutting down this track would have disastrous economical repercutions on the entire region (which is already very poor - thanks to our stupid and corrupted politicians). And what I really cannot f**king stand, it's those people who come close to the racetrack because and the complain about the noise ... the track was there way longer before them but no, they have to open their bloody mouth. AAAARRRGGGHHH !!! This might shock some but IMO the Wallonians really deserve the track to be shut down ... they are the ones who have always been voting for the same asswhipe politicians ! |
