Need help hooking up electrical mirrors
When I started to put in sound deadener inside my doors, I noticed that I had electrical mirrors, as wiring was coming out of them. But they were not connected in any way. My car is originally a 72, without power-mirrors. It has been upgraded to carrera-looks, but the mirrors has obviously never been connected.
I have the "joystick" on the upper foremost part of the driver door, which shall controll the mirrors, but I don't have the backside connector for it, and neither the switch in the dash that determines which mirror to adjust. So, can anyone here please help me as to how I should go about installing these mirrors without the dash-switch and without the connector on the back of the joystick? All I have is 4 wires from each mirror, and the joystick with 6 pins on it. I have tested the mirrors directly on the battery to see that they are indeed still operational. |

Not an easy question to answer. There are a couple of versions of the flag mirrors and switches and they won't play well together if they are mixed. If you do a search on 'flag mirrors' you will find a wealth of information that will help you determine exactly what you have. Pictures of your mirror's wiring and switch would also help. Once you have that information then you can move forward with fabricating or buying the correct main harness.

I'm parting out my 1982 911SC, and you're in luck as I just happen to have the joystick toggle backside wire connector, loom, and in-dash mirror select switch for sale if you want these. I'll snip back and get you as much as the sub loom as I can, but they feed in a major wire run loom run.
These and the Bentley Manual wiring schematic should get you set up good. Send me a PM and I can even box and ship today if you want. I take paypal. Say $10 for each connector and the switch, $5 shipping makes it $25 total. I also have two 911SC mirror in guards red available if you need them as spares or to help with you powered mirror project. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Rusty,
There is a main mirror harness that is behind the dash with white plastic connectors on each end and pigtails that go to the fuse panel and the mirror selector switch. I'm sure it comes out much easier then it goes in..[ain't that the truth] It would be a shame to hack that harness up. Then there are two short harnesses with white plastic connectors that go from the main trunk harness into each of the doors. You need to have the proper tool to remove the pins from one end of the connector to pull the harness thru the fender and door. Those harnesses also connect to the mirrors with the same type of connectors. Anyway, they might more useful if they are intact.

Yup, there is a total harness behind the dash,,,,,,,,,,,,,or mine "was" behind it..........and you're talking about this one..........
![]() PJO the origional poster is in Norway, and to save on shipping he's just wanting the connectors, not the whole loom but I'll send that too. See his mirror wires though are already bare nubs though. PJ, your call. Want the harness too? Harness would add $5 to the price, as it'll go in a small box instead of a padded envelope for shipping. doesn't matter to me either way, paypal me the $35 ASAP if you want to get it shipped today. or $5 less if you just want the switch and joystick connector. If it doesn't go out shipped today, it'll be next week before I can get it mailed.

Dave,
Looks like his mirror wiring is questionable. I see 4 wires..should be 6. If it was me I would buy you complete setup and go from there.

Hmmm. So it should be 6 wires? When I tested the mirror on the battery the other day, I got two directional movements just with the black and the blue wire, by swapping the polarity on them, the directional movement changed. By adding one of the two other wires, the movement appeard along the other axis.
Does this tell you anything? Rusty, I am more than ready to transfer 35$ ASAP, but will it fit my mirrors? If anyone knows, please chime in fast! ![]() |

What the heck, I just transferred the money. Hopefully I can make it all work. Can you include the mirror connectors as well? The male connectors going into the two white female connectors on your picture.

PJ, you need a Bentley Manual.......buy it, buy it now...........works GREAT for the 1978-83 911SC, it's THE bible.
You mirrors are from later year correct? Page 970-25 Side Mirror Wiring. ![]() My drivers side mirror plug has 6 wires, but they are doubled up in three of the connector pins Double White, Double Browns, and Black/Blue. ![]() Passenger side connector has only 5 wires, one per pin. ![]() thanks for the paypal..............it'll work out fine for you.......and I salute and respect any countrys' public that eats raw fish soaked in lye.......LuteFisk!!! GAG. I love this definition on the web, I read it on the web so of course it has to be true!: http://netnet.net/~pineaire/Lutefisk.html

Hahaha. Lutefisk is great. It's not raw though! It is first soaked in lye, and then boiled. But it's important not to overdo it (the time spent in the pan), or the pieces will disintegrate into a mushy gel.
![]() The white connectors, do they connect directly to the mirror? Hmm. I hope I'll get the wiring right. I am not sure what year my mirrors are. Does anyone know which year had 4 wires coming out of each mirror? |

No, the wires don't connect directly to the mirror body. In fact, the wires from the mirror motors don't "break" at a connection until past the door jamb. That's why so many cut them in the door.
At least I think that's right. It gets so long between jobs that I forget some details. ![]() |

If anyone knows more specific regarding 4 vs 6 wires, please chime in. It will probably take some time untill the wire-harness and parts are here, so hopefully I can have sorted out how to wire everything by the time the parts arrive.
How much hassle is it to install power mirrors by the way? And does that add a lot of extra weight? I have the power window switches on the door panels, but lack everything else. I am installing remote power locks this weekend, some aftermarket ones with a starter-imobiliser included. ![]() |

The motor assembly wiring on my car:
2 wires for the motor, Black and Blue on the right side and I had Black and Black/yellow on the left side]. 2 wires for the clutch, white and a brown wire 2 wires for the heating elements in the mirror glass, Grey /green and a brown wire. The motor assembly has a connector. This allows you to replace the unit when it goes bad without rewiring the car! The door harness plugs into the mirror assembly connector and runs thru the door jam, into the trunk and connects to the main harness. I'm guessing someone removed the heating element wiring on your mirror..which is why I suggested you buy the two mirror motor assemblies from from Rusty so you would have a working set up. I'll look for my wire harness schematic. I decided to document mine when I was troubleshooting the driver side motor failure.

Ah, I see. Well, I guess I'll manage fine without the heating option. Given that the mirrors will work properly without it. It was really a bonus to notice I had power mirrors, I found out by chance while putting sound mats inside the doors. Buying that pair of mirrors from Rusty, and having them shipped to Norway, would probably cost me quite a bit. And I have several other things that needs to be fixed (i.e. spent money on) on the car, so I think I'll stick with the mirrors I have if it is possible to make them function.

Mystery train: Did you find that schematic?
Rusty heap: Thank you VERY much for the parts. They arrived today, under a week after you posted it. ![]() Now, since I am missing the the door harness on both sides (at least the connecting plug), does anyone have an idea as to how I shall go about wiring everything? |

Great you got my stuff, yes I ship fast.
You got my wire loom, the switch, the schematic I posted, I don't know really what more you need to hook these up other than sending me airfare from Seattle to Norway and I'll bring my soldering iron to wire it up myself. For my other parts, if you want I'll get a shipping quote from USPS, I'll guess around $30-35 shipping, as that little 1-2 pound box was $13 to ship? If you want my mirrors, or just the mirror motors, send me a PM with a fair offer. Include your email address in the PM and I'll send photos of the mirror assemblies.

Will do, if I find that I can't wire it properly as is. Do you have other parts for sale as well? (As you are parting out your car) Send me a PM if you prefer to take it private.
