Brake Pads recomendation ?
What are good brake pads for street / occasional track?
I am not looking for racing pads that take awhile to heat up before they stop but something much stronger than stock pads.... Mostly driven on windy roads... Pagid? Ferodo? etc.... thanks |

Hey,
I drive HWY 9, to and from work, Pagid RS's would fade during the summer when shredding. Pagid oranges will take all I can dish out to them. PM me if you like. eric

![]() ![]() The reality is that even the best heavy-duty street pads such as Mintex, Ferodo DS2500, Pagid Sport, etc, do not hold up at the extended brake temperatures found during track days, especially with smaller brake systems. The very compounds that keep the pads quiet and provide max friction at cold temps are the first ones to melt at temps above 600 deg F. Effective street and track pads are simply mutually exclusive and I'd recommend Mintex's for the road and something like Pagid Orange for track days. Its pretty easy to swap them back and forth and a good excuse to flush the system with new fluid at the same time,...... ![]() ![]() JMHO of course,

I've been using Mintex for both and been very happy. After 10 track days, this slo-poke is finally getting fast enough where they're marginal. But it's a slow track (Waterford Hills) with a short straight (about 90 - 40 brake at the end), so the max temperature is not too bad. If it had a 120-40 brake, the Mintex would be hopeless.
I will switch to track pads next season.

In my '71 that weighs around 2100lb I use Ferodo 2500's with racing fluid and no special cooling other than the cut outs below the bumper.
Never had a fade issue on the track (pulling about 130mph on the main straight). The pads can give an occaisional squeal on the street, but not too much dust. HTH
