Bungled up flywheel sensor connector on '84 911

I'm a long time lurker, first time poster...

I've just completed replacing the reference sensor (both the BG and the DG marked sensors) on my 1984 911, thanks to the many of you who have diagnosed these and guided the process with all the posts on this here. I did use the BMW part number the sensor instead of the Porsche part number and basically got both sensors for the price of 1, thanks the the tip!

However, somehow when I reconnected the sensor plugs in the engine compartment, the center post snagged the female side and bent it back inside the plastic socket. It's pushed so far back in there that I'm sure it's not making good contact. I tried to straighten it out with a small blade screw driver and snapped it together and got the car started, but a test drive around the neighborhood had it cut out and die and not restart. I opened the hood and pushed on the connector and the car restarted and I was able to get it home, but I'm at a loss as to how to repair my screw up.

The plastic plug is solid plastic and I can't pull the female metal connector out of the center position (even though I can see where the wire crimps inside to the metal female clip). Is this plug end a replaceable part?

I guess the other possibility is that my intermittent cut out problem wasn't the reference sensor after all, but I still need to get this plug fixed properly to rule it out.

Thanks,
Bob H.

If I were you, I cut both ends, use a 2 wire connector from Molex, and be done.

Yes I think so, that look like the type of female connector end on the inside of the housing.

Thanks.

BobH99,

Porsche repair parts are available. Not sure exactly what your end connector looks like...but these are the Junior Timer style parts listed.

Try these, They are listed under the '87 to '89 911's in the PET program.

Spring Connector 999 652 456 22

OR

Grey connector housing 022 906 231 A

use with Spring clip N 903 353 03

Good luck, you're not the only one to have messed up an end connector

Thanks for the tip Cooper. I ordered the Spring Connector 999 652 456 22 from our host and got it installed this past weekend, it was an exact replacement. I ordered three of them since they were only a buck each just incase I screwed it up again. Luck was on my side so now I have two spare! I drove the car for several hours on Sunday with no cut-out issues, looks like the problem is solved.

Thanks again.

I've since put one of those scoop inserts in the side marker light hole in the bumper.

very nice looking ride. IMHO, a headlight upgrade and front lip will add the perfect finishing touches...just my $0.02 cents.

BTW, is that scoop producing any measurable difference in cooling?

I couldn't agree more on the headlights and front lip, anyone have a set of the H4's for sale at a good price?

As for the scoop; I had been running without the side marker light during all the summer track events anyway and just wanted it to clean up the look a bit. I believe it makes a difference in the heat of the summer, although I don't have any data to back it up.
