I'll be at Tony Callas' shop on Monday. He has #1 there (BP car). I can measure then, if I can remember all the way to Monday.

I currently have two factory 911R's at the shop. Did you get the information you needed?

I never got a definitive answer.
As it happens I've not done it yet either, so good timing!

I just measured the two cars I have and here are the results:
#001 911R 19 3/4" (50.00mm) #019 911R 20 7/8" (53.25mm) I would be willing to bet money that the 001 car is correct at 50mm. The Germans wouldn't have done it any other way. Hope this helps. Tony Callas

Exact spacing is subjective which is why there are two different numbers from Tony.
The hinges need to be far enough apart to safely support the lid, but not so far that they bind on opening and closing ... this is because of the rounded shape of the body. This distance may change due to the shape of the lid being used - the shape of fiberglass layups will differ slightly from lid to lid. None of these parts were "production" pieces so slight differences will net a slightly different result. Last edited by Mr9146; 12-07-2009 at 01:04 PM.. |

so, i guess any spacing is good as long as it is a metric measurement

Any metric measurement can be converted to SAE and vice versa... :-) Good luck. Measure 5 times...drill only once. |

Just for reference here are some photos...
I'm not sure if this one is an authentic 911R. It resides in Japan. ![]() ![]() ST flares... Both of these are closer than the blue car. ![]()

Are the correct hinges on the blue Japanese car ?
Tony I think that you meant 500mm or 50cm. |

Here is the back end of 911R #20
The hinges on the Japanese car are not correct but it looks like a very cool car. Anymore photos? Cheers, Mark ![]()

Here are some photos of my old blue car with a set of R hinges installed. The hinges were repopped by Zeke and, when installed, needed a spacer to make the hood fit perfectly. Other users of Zeke's hinges did not need the spacer.
Also, with hinges I sourced from other places, some needed spacers and some didn't. It's a hit and miss thing with non-production parts. Enjoy! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I definitely meant CM (Centimeters), thank you. I have personally worked very close with the group at Weissach (Flacht) and know how they think so I would still bet that a German and especially at Porsche they wouldn’t just choose a different place on every car. I am pretty sure that there was standard and I would guess it was 50CM center to center. Tony Callas

I measured the hinge spacing on #11899002P (911R #2) when it was here at Symbolic Motors and the hinges were 19.5" center-center.
