Look what came to play at our club race

We had the Peachstate PCA Club Race at Road Atlanta over the weekend. This came to play!

It raced... This was only the second time the new owner has driven it. It was in a museum for a long time. He turned the boost way down and limited the engine to 4K on Friday then 5K on Saturday. He was having some turbo issues but it got better the more he drove it. I suspect we will be seeing more of that car at our DE's.

I know that many people who are "tough" will say stuff like "that should be driven hard and put away wet" and stuff like that; I am not that macho. I do not blame the guy for not pushing a practically irreplaceable car!

Now guys that baby their 996 3.4's are just not macho enough!

962s aren't irreplaceable, just expensive. That car would set you back $600,000. They made a lot of 962s and 956s. That said, it's one of the coolest things I've ever seen. Supposedly a very easy car to drive, I only wish I could say that from first hand experience.

I would have been afraid to run it at 4 or 5k. Afraid to foul the plugs or load up the cylinders with unburnt fuel.

I love those cars.
So beautiful inside and out and well made.. won everything back in their time, and fun to work on.

Do you know the chassis number?
I've done some work on #962104
The 4th one made and considered possibly the fastest in the Florida races.
All the drivers liked that car.... flexible flyer

Whatever. I applaud him for not overestimating his own skill level and ruining a car he just bought.

I wish the driver would/could have done a 1:18,,but
that car sat for a long time and it was interesting to see it come back to life over the weekend. Here they are lowering the car and doing an alignment.

Ummm... I can afford a few Porsches but I can't really afford to wreck one. That would hurt - a lot, and I'm only talking $40K cars, not $600K..

Wonder if that was an actual Rothman's car or just a replica paint job. Either way, very cool. Wish I had toys like that to play with.

That is one of the coolest shots ever. It's lower than the bike beside it and the turbo is larger than the guys heads!
I saw one at Waynes here in LA but you forget how small and really powerful those car are

A friend of mine has one and I lust after it constantly...... way too rich for me though.

I have been considering the 917 from racecarreplicas...... must get those thoughts out of my head.....

Cheers

Wow!
Hey ghnat
Looks like you guys had a good time.
It's been a long time sense we have seen a 962 at a club race.
I wonder if he was practicing for the Mitty.
