Fuel Pump Location 69E?

Can anyone tell me the correct mounting location for the fuel pump on the 69E? Is it below the steering rack like some of the later cars?

Thanks
Adam

It mounts on a small platform that is clamped to the front crossmamber. Paul.

Adam,

Yes, the fuel pump on a ‘69E, ‘69S, ‘70T,E,S are mounted on the front cross member under the steering rack. In ’71 it was moved to the under the left end of the rear torsion bar, a poor decision by Porsche. In ’76 it was moved back to the front cross member.

Your ‘69E has a nice bracket with noise isolators that clamps on to the cross member.

If you need to disturb anything there, I recommend you replace all the hoses and the plastic ‘Y’ connector. You should also remove the return fitting at the drain and the screen fitting and clean in the tank and the screen. If you need to replace the screen fitting, use the brass 911 part and not the less cost plastic 914 part.

Be sure all the hose clamps are the Norma-Schellen type and not common worm-screw type.

Best,
Grady

Thanks. The previous owner moved it to the smugglers box and it's not an authentic Porsche item, as also the car has Webers instead of the MFI that it should have.

Adam,

Is the original bracket and pump still in place on the front cross member? If not, it is worth the effort to find the mounting parts.

There are rotary pumps available for the original mounting – even the original ’70 911T pump is available (expensive).

Your 911 has the dual fuel lines in the chassis from the MFI. You can easily install a circulating fuel system that runs cool fuel past the Weber fuel inlets. This has great advantage in hot weather (assuming you travel from BC to SoCal ). Search Pelican on my name and ‘circulating fuel’.

Did you get the MFI with the 911?

Best,
Grady

Not sure if the original bracket is there. Cars at the painters at the moment so will have to wait to check. I didn't get the MFi with the car and to be honest I prefer the webers, as I've had a couple that had MFi and none of them ever ran 100% right. Plus I can tune the Webers.

I'll have to check on the dual fuel lines too. Not so hot here, but may be worth doing.

Thanks for all the good info.

Adam
