| Speedometer making clicking/grinding noise
Anyone know what might be causing this? Speedo bounces especially when slowing down through about 30 to 0. Clicks correspond to bounces. Is this something I might be able to fix or do I have to send it off somewhere for big bucks. Thanks ------------------ Dan S. 1974 911 Targa

I had this problem with others cars, not the P-car. Turned out to be the speedo cable and not the guage. Check the connections at both ends. It may have come loose. -------------------- Paul 78SC Targa

Thanks guys, Can I assume I get at it through the trunk and not through the dash? ------------------ Dan S. 1974 911 Targa

Pull the speedo out of the dash and you will be able to grab the nut of the drive. Should work "hand tight" w/o tools. Getting there through the trunk requires removal of the fresh air unit as far as I remember. Jens '76 2.7 CIS with '73 body conversion

Thanks Jens, I guess at this point I should point out that the only manuals I have are Clymer and Haynes Would the Bentley manual or upfixnderporsche cover procedures like this. I hate to just start tearing stuff apart due to my propensity for totally Effing up most everything I touch on this car. ------------------ Dan S. 1974 911 Targa
