Here is one of my greatest finds to date.

A direct (not OEM) replacement wire harness for the entire car. I found a reference to it in a post here and contacted the pelican that used it. He said it worked great.....so I ordered one, only $350!

This is designed for the VW bug. I spoke with the owner of the company that sells it and he is very knowledgeable about auto wiring and said it should work fine…..they also offer support for the install.

It replaces this:

With this:

Almost done with the interior strip down:

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1262792549.jpg

After much debate I will paint the entire car Porsche sport classic grey (side by side comparison with white below) the interior will be painted the body color….I may do black in the trunk, engine bay and dash.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1262792588.jpg

I will now do BLACK trim and black fuchs wheels, I dropped the stuff at a local powder coater, $300 to blast and coat all the wheels and $200 for all the trim….I thought it was a good deal.

I went back and forth on the trim but decided I want to have a very “clean” look and just decided that having everything grey/black was the way to go.

The last guy that I talked to that tried that with the electrical abandoned it due to the uniqueness of the 911 electrical system, good luck and keep us posted if what he told me comes true you can update the OEM harness to accept modern fuses easily I did it in a couple of evenings.

Thx much. The Borg has assimilated your information.

- Did that include the fuse & relay bracket? Did it include the relays and fuses themselves?

BTW - I like that gray. You might consider adding a little metal-flake to it for something unique.

everything from the trunk, fuses, block, relays, etc.

Did not include, engine harness (no engine in car), or that engine relay mount thingy....basically everything back to the engine bay.

RWebb 01-24-2010 10:26 AM

thx!

one more question - what type of scale did you use to weigh things?
(I am wondering how accurate the wts. are, since very few scales are really trustworthy, esp. at such low wts.)

ghost1001 02-01-2010 12:06 PM

postal scale....it is quite accurate

Great project! Love the idea and the color choices!

ghost1001 02-13-2010 04:58 PM

getting there....bumpers will use most factory parts, specifically the impact tubes and factory mounts. This should provide protection in the event of...an impact....plus simple removal and/or replacement, back to stock...whatever;)

I will weigh the front and rear once all of the parts are in place and painted.

Looks great. What is the purpose of the front bumper scoop? Not sure I care for that look, but I like where you are going with the overall look. Keep up the great work.

enjefriy 04-15-2010 10:11 PM

so cool. If only u started this earlier, i would have knicked this idea.
The scoop is for the oil cooler in the fender i believe.
Integral scoop saved u abit from having to purchase the scoop sold by our host.

ghost1001 04-16-2010 06:46 AM

Hi Guys,

Sorry it has been sooooo looooong for an update. I have been busy with work and the body shop is just finishing up the final buffing, etc. He is a good friend of mine so he has liberty to work on my car between other jobs.....

In any event, the front bumper looks really nice and the rear as well....I love the look my only concern is the weight. I picked up some fiberglass bumpers cheap from a local pelican and will build lightweight bumpers with the same look.

I also have made some BIG decisions on the drive train……..purists beware

My original goal for the project was to make this a really hot street car that could stomp just about anything out there sort of a sleeper, older looking 911, narrow body, etc. I know that some feel that these cars offer a refined driving experience, etc, etc. I want a race car that I can drive on the street….and that means serious power.

I started to price out the rebuild on my 3.0l Porsche motor and soon realized that trying to get over 300hp was cost prohibitive. I researched the Subaru flat 4 extensively and decided that this is the way to go. I will have a spec build Subaru 2.5l turbo motor putting out 400hp and 400ft-lbs pushing this 911. Stand alone engine management will be used and it will be mated to a 930 4 speed gear box.

Here is a discussion on the trans selection:
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/532712-915-300-hp-upgrades.html

Yes, it is now a complete bastard and that is fine with me…..it will be a rocket!!!

May need to play with the gearing but the motor is very capable and highly developed. The Subaru’s are widely used in rally racing and the engines have a great reputation. The pricing is also what I would call “fair”. The entire engine including engine mgmt. dyno tuning, built by one of the best shops in the country will be in the $15-20k range, keep in mind that this buys 400hp with modern engine management.

Anyway that’s the big news.....more to follow...

I got my car back yesterday....let the fun begin!!!

The little blue chips of tape are areas that need touch up....anyway I am very pleased with the color; I like the black trunk, eng. comp. and dash. I will try to get the glass and trim in next week; I will also mount the hood and front bumper so you can see how the whole package looks....the car is incredibly light I can roll it around with one hand!!! Granted we will be putting weight back into it but not that much.

gestalt1 04-18-2010 05:20 AM

nice! that looks like a great workshop also.

JBurer 10-14-2010 07:10 PM

Reminds me of the turbo rotary '75 Targa I owned at one point. 330rwhp and a fairly lightweight car (2400lbs with a full interior, if I recall correctly).

This will be a blast when it's done... I still miss mine sometimes!

When I went to talk to the guys that are "cleaning " up my engine, they handed me the Excellence magazine with that white lightweight 911 write up in it,the one you have in your post. That was my inspiration also.I started ripping stuff out of the car that day.I have read that article and studied the pictures for hours.Love that car. There is a red/orange 356 in the same magazine...the guys working on my engine/car built that car (356).Keep up the good work, check mine out sometime.

Alex973 10-22-2010 07:25 AM

nice project, i was at the bike shop across the street, went saw the car back in 07 wanted some brembo calipers for my project. the guy also have a nice set of fuchs 8 & 10 i found that very rare, good luck with the project long way from where it was, thanks for showing my pic in your project i was surprised:)

500_19B 10-22-2010 08:21 AM

I really like the look of the front bumper.

Will the rad mount above the motor?

Thanks guys…I have had zero time to work on the car, finally getting into my slow season at work so I hope to make some progress over the winter, hopefully have it on the road by spring.

I have decided that it should be all Porsche and I am having a 930 motor built for it, I already have the 930 trans and I am working on rewiring the car.

The rest pretty much stays as planned….it is now a “narrow turbo” project. I toyed with the idea of doing a 934 clone, but I think I will stick with the narrow body for now. I am trying to do this super clean if you know what i mean, like everything well though out so I am actually glad it is taking me a while. It seems like the longer I wait to decide what to do, things just fall into place...

Here are some more recent pictures…

you know thats right!!!

JBurer 10-24-2010 09:39 AM

Ghost - I can't recall if I sent you a message regarding the engine build. I've been considering selling my motor (complete, with full EFI conversion) that has a lot of life left - and just dynoed at 424rwhp.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/5614944-post142.html

ghost1001 10-24-2010 04:19 PM

Yes, you did, thanks...I replied that I would have to pass as I am having a motor built locally.....although mine will have more modest power figures for now.

kenikh 10-24-2010 05:59 PM

Tranny was the reason i scrapped my big power project. You baseically need a $12K tranny for 400/400. That's why my 400HP Subie build is staying in my Subie and my 200HP, 2L 911 motor is staying in my 911.
