1 year update....
 

Never thought it would take this long, make so many plans/changes/ideas/directions, or get in soooooooo deeeeeeep......

Came to realize my own limitations, learned tons and it has been very rewarding....many times along the road I have had doubts about actually finishing the car....I am a great starter and taker apart of things, it is the finishing and putting back together I struggle with. I plan to finish this one....with a little help;).

But....I LOVE the direction the car is taking, I will probably spend about 50-60k all told by the time I am done (twice what I had planned) but the car will be totally dialed in and very fast!!

It will be what my original dream/vision was....but taken to the next level, a fast, lightweight, vintage Porsche 911:).....turbo:D.

Finally have had some time as business slows down for the end of the year.

Been working on the interior and rebuilt the pedal cluster.....not sure if I mentioned this or not but I have Peter Dawe building a turbo motor for the car (approx. 400bhp), will be mated to a 930 trans, the car will get a coil-over conversion and a few other race/track type things....i think I will do some bolt on flares…..as additional tire width will be needed.

Here is my version of a super minimalist interior, aluminum floor boards, footboard and dead pedal covered in perlon, perlon glue in headliner and my aluminum dash panel covered in black tweed fabric. I also, got a momo steering wheel from a fellow member.

As this will be primarily a street car I will work on felt backing for the floorboards to control noise, I also ordered at appbiz sound pad for the rear shelf area and will build some custom trim panels for that area. I have started to work on RS type door panels and plan to cover in the same fabric as the dash.

I will install black leather recaro pole position seats, for now the oem seat stands in.

I can now sit in the car and imagine driving it….very cool!!

Randy, yes, black powder coat....my old camera was little off and I think that is why it looks bronzeish.

Mark makes for 915 and g50 as well....I think Pelican sells them....he also has a really cool gas pedal which will be going in as well.

Hey Ghost, I'm doing this to my 66 912. My only issue so far is that the dimmer switch, and trun signal switch are not user friendly in a re-wire. Porsche uses way to many wires to do the same as two can do. I'm now getting all my lights doing the dim flash with the turn signal on ether L or R, and the radio goes nuts with the turn signals on. Here's one a buddy did (3.6+) He's had very good race results with the car The fiberglass flares are easier and cheaper to replace when track damage occurs. This car was sold unfortunately due to our failing economy...

Yes, many wires on the factory Porsche parts.....I have eliminated them completely, I will be using toggle switches for my, lights, turn signal, etc. I just felt like it was a simple way as I was already changing out all of the wires…..sorry can’t help there.

Yes, the scrs was definitely one of the bumpers that inspired the creation of the bumpers for this car….now that we are pushing 400hp at the wheels a wide body is in order.

Most likely rsr fenders and 930 quarters, 12” rear and 10” front wheel widths….if you like simple bumpers check this out, this will marry up with the rsr fenders, small surface mounted turn signal lights will be used:

Is that the same bumper you started with by pulling the valence up to the stock bumper and getting rid of the bellows? Looks like a new piece.

Sorry, no not the same one, a new peice to fit with the rsr front fenders and front mount oil cooler. Due to the slant down on the front it gives the car and incredible line, unlike any other 911 bumper i have seen....very clean and beautiful!!!

That is the 1974 911 Turbo Carrera RSR. It was Porsche's first turbocharged race car. 2.14 liter, air/air intercooler, 915 gearbox.

"Bubi" had a 1.4 liter, air/air intercooler, 915 gearbox. The 1.4 liter was needed to make it fit the 2 liter class with the 1.4 multiplier for turbocharged cars. It competed with the BMW 320 Turbo.

This is the 2.14 liter 935 "Bubi" for the 2 liter class of the German sports car championship.

You are correct, 1974 (my pic was tagged 1976) it had a 2.1 l turbo engine, I have seen it referred to as "baby" as well, apparently incorrectly. Thanks for the clarification....first turbo race car is pretty cool!!

The most surprising thing about the car to me is that the front bumper seems so “modern” I wonder why they didn’t continue with it….may because they went to the sloped fenders after this year.

I made a typo. What I meant to say was first turbocharged 911 racecar. They used the technology they had been using on the 917.10 and 917.30 two years earlier in 1972-1973.

Just curious: wasn't it the BMW 2002 tii it competed against?

No, the 320i Turbo. The 2002 tii was earlier and its immediate predecessor. The 2002 Turbo actually pre-dated the 930 by a year or two.

just curious... why the a-arm modification (rod end instead of stock balljoint) ?

I was told it allows additional negitive camber....it may simplify other aspects of setting up/adjusting the suspension as well. It is part of this shops suspension "formula" for race cars.

He has made a few for clients and i told him if he wants to sell them to let me know....he is a very busy man, preping many race cars.....and you need to get in line behind me;) I will ask him if he would be interested in producing a few....it fits 11" rsr front fenders so it will not be for everyone, but it is a cool bumper for sure.
