Tire Pump/ Compressor?
I wore out my tire pump/compressor last summer. Here in the midwest I get a lot of pressure loss in the tires over the winter but I've been putting off buying a new pump and I'm tired of driving up to the gas station to fill'em for $.75 a spin.
Caveats: 1) I've got a construction compressor and it's great, but it's for nail guns and impact guns, I'm looking for a tire pump. 2) There are a range of them up at Autozone starting at about $60 and going up to $120, the only problem is I wouldn't pay $20 for any of'em, they all look like cheap pieces of crap. 3) I actually don't have a problem buying a cheap piece of crap compressor, as long as it's priced accordingly. Recommendations???

Certainly no Cadillac, But I watched the adds and picked up a nice horizontal compressor at Sears for a couple bucks, added 25' of hose (for a total of 50'), added quick dis-connects, put it on a new switched receptacle, and it works fine for anything I need. 120V.

Air you talking about a garage air compressor or the small portable one you put in your trunk and runs off of 12 volts?

I picked up a nice 12 volt compressor in a nice zippered bag at Sams Club for cheap! I would bet Costco would have a similar product too.
Just pick up a small pancake compressor at you building supply store and it would always be ready in your garage. Prices seem to be dropping!

I use my Porter Cable compressor (the one I use for my nail gun) or a little Campbell Hausfeld "AirXpress" inflator. Its a 120V, 150 PSI inflator that I think came from the Home Depot 12-15 years ago. Back then it was $40-50. They both work well.

I'm talking about a 12v tire pump, like the kind that didn't come w/ my 911.
G450X, are you talking about this one from Harbor Freight? - Harbor Freight Tools - Quality Tools at the Lowest Prices

That's the one...
I usually refrain from "Made in China" if possible, but sometimes an occasional use product is serviceable and cost effective in the low price bracket.
Products I use frequently I try to source from USA/Germany, etc., and I focus on quality. Another example is very large sockets (1/2" or 3/4" drive) which are infrequently used. I picked up a large set from HF for $15.99 with a 20% off coupon. I also picked up a brass punch (India) there which was hard to find elsewhere. The scary part is that I can see great strides in quality since the really "junky" quality level Chinese tools 20 years ago or so (holes would not line up, poor mating surfaces/machining/paint, etc..). I recently picked up a door installer delivered for $50.00. It will pay for itself on the first door adjustment, and the quality, while certainly not great, is very good. When they start cranking out decent $5k cars, look out..... |

I picked up a jump starter and had a built in compressor. It was from Northern Tool and cost was around $100. However, it might be a bit heavy and bulky for what you are looking for - certainly compared with the 12V Porsche compressors.
I've got it in my Jeep now for the winter and have used it a few time to adjust tire pressures. I'm happy with it.
