Temperature Sending Unit
I have a '69 911T. I just swapped the "T" oil temp and oil pressure light guage for the "S" type. The new "S" pressure gauge / sender works great. The oil temp gauge does not. The original non-numerical T temp gauge would only move about 1/8 of an inch when fully warmed up. When I swapped it to the 120-300 deg. "S" gauge it did the same thing. It barely moved above 120 deg. I then bought a new temp sender (901-641-632-00-M100) from Pelican and installed it. The gauge still only moves 1/8 of an inch, barely above the 120 deg mark. Two different gauges, two different senders, same results. What does your early 911 gauge read when warmed up?

The guage and sender must match (resistance?). You may have the incorrect sender for your guage (or vice-versa). There are companies out there that calibrate your guage to your sender. You must ship them both. There may be a DIY procedure, but I'm too lazy to do a search.

Hi
I have also almost the same problem with low oil temp reading. My none numerical guage only go up to just below normal mark never more. is't any one who now resistance the sending unit should give? /tom

drop the sender in a pot of boiling water while it is connected. (you may have to extend the wiring, or at least hook up a ground to the sender. Calibrate it vs. 100C or 212F.
It is possible your thermostat is remaining open and your engine isn't warming up. That would be my concern. As another test, I bought a 12" digital thermometer which I can drop in the oil tank to measure the oil temp at that location. I bought it from mcmaster.com for $30 Doug
