Brake Booster/MC replacement........

The brake booster/MC of the '78SC I'm working on is bad and have to be replaced. Would an '86 brake booster/MC assembly work for an SC with no modification? Well, this is what I found out this morning after I removed the old brake booster/MC.

Looking at the above pictures, you could see the difference in their configuration. The old booster/MC is more in-line while the '86 has a noticeable slope. I've been told that the Carrera brake booster/MC is a bolt-on replacement for the older SC booster. Could it be that the '86 booster/MC (shown above) has been damaged (accident) causing it to have a different orientation?

Any tip, suggestion, or recommendation is highly appreciated. Thanks.

Tony

It's damaged, the axis of the mc actuating rod needs to be concentric w/ the vacuum diaphram axis

Good catch Bill, it sure is bent!

Here's a good case where used / junkyard parts are not a safe bet. I'm a huge supporter of the auto recyclers specializing in Porsche parts (Emory's, EASY, Parts Heaven) but I would recommend against re-using a safety critical part like a master cylinder of unknown pedigree.

Given the time and trouble to install these parts, it's better to get them new. Yes, I know it costs more.
