High output alternator

Currently I have the original alternator in a 75 S. My light glows occasionally, so I figure it is time for a new regulator or a rebuild on the alternator.

I guess now is the time to convert to an internal regulator style, which I want anyways.
Is anybody using the high output alternator for sale from Pelican?
Apparently I have two options. One puts out 75 amps, this looks like the common upgrade.
Then there is one listed as 'high output', it puts out 95 amps.

They both look like quality alternators and they are both sold on this site.
What would be the advantage to 95 amps over 75 amps?
Would there be any disadvantage to running 95 amps through 34 year old wiring?

Alternators with ratings of 95 amps are referring to their capability to flow current into a low resistive device like a battery. Most alternators will never output more that 20-30 amps and that will be right after a start when the battery's charge has been reduced.

As long as your wiring from the alternator down to the starter and from the starter back to the battery is good, the high output alternator will be fine. Having said that, unless you are running two rows of Cibie lights, a 500 watt subwoofer with a 1500 watt stereo system, or an electric blanket heater powered by an inverter, you don't need the high output alternator.

I do have H4s, a stereo that is always on and a sub. Other than that I can't think of anything else that would draw amps.

My headlight brightness does dip a bit at low idle. That sounds like it would be cured with a new internal regulator alternator.

Thanks for talking me out of the 95 amp. It is twice the cost of the 75 amp.
