The metal parts of the shifter are almost bullet proof... Just needs the occasional clean a re lube.
Some accelerated wear can happen as a consequence of installing a short shift kit but otherwise they are very good.

Only the bushing at the end of the shift rod needs replacing.
This slides into the shift rod that then goes back to the shift rod coupling on the transmission.

Just check all of these in turn and replace as necessary. They're not expensive.
A bit of play in the shift coupler at the transmission is normal.

You're welcome

So what's the problem you're having?

Slight correction. There are three wear areas:

1. End of shift lever: bushing
2. Forward end of shift tube: support bushing
3. Shift coupler: bushings

Any wear in any bushing set will create additional clearance and thus decrease the transfer of motion to the gearbox by an equivalent amount.

Oops... Forgot about this one. It's an O Ring shaped bushing the shift rob rides in.
