Convert Targa To Coupe
Is it possible to remove the targa bar and the targa parts around the windshield area, and install a complete coupe donor roof? Has anyone done this.
I have removed complete roofs from 911's and installed donor roofs with no problems. |

Seems kinda like not worth the effort, even it it was possible.
You would also need to add door glass frames and such. And probably a bunch of interior pieces and a million other things that don't immediately come to mind.

Vapors:
There have been some commercially built units to convert a cab into a coupe, so they should be fittable, as the targa & cab have the same body. And I think someone here made one. Maybe do a search and see what turns up? Good luck! Paul. Edit: 1976 Targa to Coupe http://rennlight.com/hardtop/ Targa to Coupe Roof Conversion

just sell it and buy a coupe. I've seen posts here of people who have done it though.

I agree......probably better to just buy a coupe instead of going through all of the work to convert.

Converting a Targa to a convertible is pretty straight forward.
I even remember seeing a Porsche technical bulletin on how to do this. To go from a Traga to a coupe would require way more parts and time. It's doable but you should ask your self why. Wouldn't it be easier to make sure your Targa roof is adjusted and fitted properly and enjoy the car. Often owners are swayed by the opinion of others about their cars. The Targa is a great car. Don't let anybody else tell you otherwise.

It's fairly easy. Contact Cory at Planet 9 Eleven. He's done them before.

I was debating this a little while back. I ended up buying a 74 NSR Coupe tub to just swap my parts over too. It will take a lot of wrenching, but I know everything is going to line up when its done. But, if I was building a track car, I would pull off the targa parts, build a full cage, and put on a fiberglass roof. However, if you are familiar with bodywork, and you have a good donar to get all the metal you need, I don't see why you couldn't do the swap yourself.

I remember watching a Targa to Cabriolet conversion done at a Tweeks Porsche event in Illinois the summer I met Rarely L8. They did it in just a few hours with their "engineered" kit. However, those conversions never seemed really right even with all their professional knowledge.
I keep my Targa in the garage with the roof off and ready for those fine days and drive the coupe when its too hot, or too cold, or likely to rain. Dan |

It has been done a lot - it is typically on race cars to take advantage of the stiffer chassis in conjunction with a solid roof.
