Lil help please........

After driving my 89 carerra and parking for 20-30 minutes..It takes about 15-20 cranks to get it started. I have changed the relay under the drivers seat, check valve on the fuel pump, head sensor......AM i missing something.... My mechanics around here want to charge me for the "Hit or Miss" deal....... Oh yea, after it does start it puffs alittle black smoke (rich)... Help me someone........john

I'm not sure about your car. But in my 77 when it did this is was a fuel check valve. I have also heard a bad fuel accumulator will do this. But I am not familiar with how your car works.

John, you might consider checking the O2 sensor. They are critical to the proper functioning of these systems. They can produce a variety of symptoms, some hard to diagnose.
Just a thought.

Just a thought. It could be leaky fuel injectors. If they are seeping fuel after you turn the car off and when you try to restart it is warm so doesn't need a choke effect then you have a rich condition and have to crank a while to get some of the fuel out before the car starts, and then afterwards get the smoke because the car was effectively flooded.
No expert, just the first thing that came to mind.
