I was in an accident in my car (right side was cringed) so required pretty extensive body work and paint. Took it from the stock rust color to silver and absolutely love the change. That said, its a lot more work doing all the jams and so on but my guy did a good job and it looks very nice.

I have no idea what the original color was, and the paint code plackard is missing. I decided to go with an original '69 color that was close to what was on it at the time, Light Ivory.

I am still a bit curious what the original color of my car was, but in a factory color with it's chrome restored, it's a beautiful car.

My point: if you already have an incorrect color, there is a lot more margin for error, and it's a lot less work if you go to a factory color that is close to whatever is there now.

just my $0.02.

Dan:

Did you poke around the body pan, under the dash, engine room, inside the doors, and trunk to see if you can find some orginal color? If I am not mistaken, the entire body was painted it's exterior color (inside and out) and unless the person who did the color change totally stripped the car, you will find vestiges of the original color.

These web sites (Porsche 911 Farbdatenbank, Glasurit Color codes and samples for 1966-) can give you an idea of the colors available in the day.
