Question Headlight trim rings for covering the chrome....WHAT SCREWS DO I USE?

Hi all,

I know this seems silly, but I figure this is the place to get the answer.

I recently bought and painted trim rings to cover the chrome on my H1's. The main screw to hold the headlight unit stable is on the bottom of the light (6:00 position).

The screws that came with my trim rings are much shorter and thinner than the screws currently holding the assembly, so I know they won't property secure the light.

Here's the question...am I suppose to use the original screw with the covers? If so, it doesn't seem like i'll get them tight enough, as the overhang of the trim covers is too much. Furthermore, the smaller screws that came with the new rings don't fit anywhere else.

I know this is trivial stuff, but I'm not sure what to do. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

regards,

If you mean you have the primered trim rings that cover the original chrome trim, then the numbers are:

Long screw to hold headlamp into body 911 631 033 00

Short screw to hold trim ring onto headlamp 911 631 132 00

Hey Brit,

Thanks so much for the numbers.

I guess I'm confused because the long screws that hold the lamp in the body are secured through the chrome ring. It doesn't seem like I can use two different screws, unless I'm suppose to secure the the lamp without the chrome ring first? Is that possible?

And then I'm to secure the chrome trim along with the primered rings after with the small screws? I doesn't seem like there is any place to anchor the small screws.

I know I sound clueless........that's because I am!! ha ha.

Please advise (ANYONE!!)

regards,

One screw holds both. It doesn't need to be tremendously tight. It only needs to hold the lower end of the rings in place. If the match is correct, the new rings should snap over the old ones.

Hi Jack,

Thanks. The rings do snap over the chrome, but I'm not sure which of the screws to fasten them with.

If I can fasten them down with the screw that fastens the lamps now, then what is the purpose of the other smaller screws that came with the kit? Could they be for another type of assembly?

When you say one screw "fastens both", I am assuming the screw for the chrome trim AND the primer rings? (the same screw that holds the assembly to the car)

I'm sorry for the confusion. The smallest things can be so crazy for me. thanks for bearing with me.

regards,

I just did this. there should be two screws. the first screw holds the whole assembly to the car. that screw should have a hole in it so the second scre that goes to the trim ring can scre into it.
this link to pelican shows the firs screw.

http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/shopcart/911M/por_911M_lenses_main.htm

the second screw goes through the trim ring and into the top of the first screw. hope I helped

By george, I think I've finally got it..........THANKS DOOF.

Makes much more sense to me now. Didn't realize I needed a special "inside" screw, so the outside screw that holds the primer rings would have a place to anchor to.

Obviously, the original mounting screws don't have the special threaded end, and I didn't get any special screws in my kit, so that explains my confusion.

SOMEONE PLEASE CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG ABOUT THE SCREW WITHIN ANOTHER SCREW THEORY.

PHEW, I'M GLAD THAT'S DONE. Time to call Pelican Again, and get the freagin' screws.

regards,
