Amp Power Supply routing

I am rerouting my power amp from the front compartment of my early car to underneath my drivers seat. Anybody have a good way to route the power cable and speaker wire through the front firewall?

Yes, just did that, over on the right side you should see a metal tube, about 1",that goes from the trunk to the underside of the dash jus below the glove compartment. Pass all the wires through that, simple.

i used a grommet that allowed the wire (4g) to pass through easily. you can see pics here:

new audio install

nineball, After reading through your post It appears you are running the power and the rca cords together up next to the center tunnel. I have been advised to separate these so as to eliminate any engine noise. Thoughts from a 15 year veteran?

nope, take a look at the pics again. the power line comes from the battery through the grommet and then into the cabin exiting behind the headlight switch. it is ran along the left side of the car tucked under the carpet. my rca cables (and speaker wire) come from the radio down into the passenger footwell behind the foot board and then along the center tunnel to the amp under the seat. you are correct that it is best if your audio lines (rca and speaker wire) are ran away from the power line.

In my install, I can keep the RCAs away from the power which runs down the right hand sill. (can't find a grommet on the driver side). My speaker wire will run up the drivers side center tunnel and pass through to the same firewall hole as the power for the main amp and the powered sub. (In the previous install, the RCAs, speaker wirer and sub power all ran through the same point in the firewall with never any engine noise in the system). With the amp repositioned from the trunk to under ther seat, I am taking away the RCAs from that pass through point and adding the amp power supply. Will this be too much for the speakerwire alone?

well, there is no way to tell for certain until you try it but i have seen many installs with the speaker wire next to the power lines. is it the best thing to do? no, but it can work without problems. the other thing you can do is possibly route the speaker lines down the center tunnel and run the power wire along the floor at the drivers door like i did. it will at least separate them for most of their paths.

why do you have speaker wire running through a grommet into the trunk? my amp is under the seat and i did it that way so the only line i have to run from the trunk into the cabin is the single 4g power line. easier to do and less to worry about.

My setup was rigged using my Diamond audio crossovers and amp in the front trunk so the wires to the door speakers still come out up front. I am using the same Xovers and will mount them to the heater cover but I am thinking the power to the amp and power to the sub amp going through the same point as the speaker wire is asking for problems so I think I will make a hole behind the HL switch. Running the power along drivers side makes more sense.
