Need Hose: Heat Exchanger To Flapper Box
It looks like Pelican has an OEM hose for $27. Is that really what I gotta spend? Does anyone have something aftermarket and cheaper? Auto parts places carry "pre-heater" hoses that look perfect, but they don't carry anything larger than a 2" diameter. Home Depot and Lowes carry some similar 3" diameter hoses, but they fall apart when you try to get them snug on the 2 1/2" pipe.
Anyone? |
Find someone near you with some leftover 2.5" SCAT aircraft ducting from their SSI installation. If that doesn't work, you can buy it online for about $8 per foot. I'm not really sure why pelican doesn't sell this stuff by now... people have been recommending it here for years.

There you go! $8.25 a foot! You can't beat that!
Thank you. |

If you might prefer a different look you can get flex SS ducting from McMaster-Car. It's a bit tricky to work with but produces a nice result I think...

Thermoid High-Temp Ducting - 600 Degree Aircraft Silicone Ducting 11 foot lengths, $75 shipped. It's the same 600 degree, double wrapped silicone 2.5 inch tubing. for heck of a lot less. This is enough for two cars doing a backdate, or one car replacing EVERYTHING. |
Cool find...

Yeah thanks for posting these, I too need to replace some heater hose.
But a question, why 600 degrees? Wouldn't the 350 degree rated work just as well, I mean my heat doesn't work THAT well. And I'm only refering to the hose inside the engine compartment. Thanks Jay |
They have the lower level stuff too, but for a fraction more, why not get something that you'll never have to worry about? If you know that you're not going to change any that might be near the exhaust, then go with the black stuff, but once you get it home, you'll want to change everything out with nice fresh clean tubing ;)

Is 350 degrees enough? I've been using the SCAT tubing, with it's 550 degree rating, and it works great. I've been thinking about this for silicone connectors though... |
Just received and installed my Aircraft Spruce hose today. It was a perfect fit. I ordered just 1 foot at $8.25 plus shipping because that was the minimum, and I only needed enough for one side. But when I received it, I ended up with 18 inches. Pretty generous of them! Half of that was more than enough for my one side. Now I have enough for two!
Thanks for the responses, guys. |
Just go to a small aircraft repair center. They will have aircraft SCAT tubing in any diameter. Bring an old tube if you don't know the size.
