Rear view mirror

I would like to replace my rear view mirror on my 87 Targa, it is pitted and no longer real clear. It appears it has the round mounting bracket and is well secured to the window. How does the mirror get removed from the bracket? I do not see a set screw or any other type of release. I would like to do this leaving the bracket in place on the windshield. Thanks

If you look at the mount, you'll see it's "open" at the bottom, which allows the mirror to slide up and off.

Probably the easiest is to get a piece of wood or something to protect the mirror and gently tap on the bottom of the mirror. It will begin to move and once far enough will come right off. But tap on the mount of the mirror, not the metal "puck" shown on the above link that's glued to the windshield.

A new mirror may need a little tapping down to make sure it's good and tight.
