Angry I scratched my Porsche

A lovely day in Sydney today, I pull up at a set of lights in full Cab mode. This ute pulls up next to me, young guy with his tongue hanging out. "Great car, wow nice wheels, pity about the scratches above the front wheel". Me (totally disbelieving) "yeah mate, thanks".

I pondered all the way home, thinking smart @rse, good mind game- he got me. Checked myself out in shop windows on the way - saw nothing - sweet.

I get home, pull in my garage, race around to look and literally cried. 10 scratches in the front guard courtesy of the garage wall and my careless driving skills earlier that morning. No bent panels, just paint - but #$%!.

Now the question is do I just have the front guard repainted or do I do the bonnet and front spoiler as well, as they have some repaired chips?. Any thought, or comments about the previous experiences or costs would be appreciated. If any Sydney guys know a good paint shop on the North Shore - that would help.

Thanks for listening - my picture before I damaged her....

David,

I'm really sorry to hear about that! I heard a little while ago that Charlie Battisti (A top-notch Melbourne repairer - Prestige/Exotic) was going to open a Sydney branch. I don't know if they have done it yet but they do some exceptional work. Have a quick look for him at www.whitepages.com.au.

I did that once myself in a BMW I once owned. I nearly cried!

Good Luck

That is a bummer. One thing I don't quite understand. You hit your garage wall enough to scratch your paint and didn't know it? Drink more coffee in the morning.

Awesome car!!!
If you didn't even know you did it, I'll bet the scratches will come out. You probably just rubbed some garage paint onto you car. Don't know without seeing them but the alignment shop put 3 deep grooves into my rear flare and I was able to rub them out.
I would give it a try. Get some light to medium grit polishing compound and some 3M mirror glaze polishing compound. Use the light to medium compound and see if you can rub out the scratches. Go over the area with the mirror glaze to get the swirl marks out. You'll probably have to go over it a couple of times with the mirror glaze since you have a black car. Most auto stores sell different grades of polishing compounds.
If you want a prof. job. A good detail shop should be able to take care of your scratches.

Good luck!

I second those that say try to rub it out. I have removed some surprisingly bad scratches using the Meguirs products. Be careful though and make sure to start with the LEAST abrasive first. You have nothing to lose by trying but don't try any rubbing compounds.
Later,
Buck

Thanks for the suggestions.

Unfortunately I have to swing between the brick wall and the wifes merc and caught the very edge of the brick pillar (now wrapped in foam). Unfortunately the scrates are through the paint.

Thanks for the coffee suggestion - on the money.

awesome beast...just awesome

I can't tell in the pic, but what Jack Olson often says is right. It looks driven that way.

Your car is awesome...yeah, you can have those fixed without a lot of effort, but id not, don't worry...
I have a lot of chips on the front spoiler, some dings on the rockers, and it looks driven to me. I drive the living hell out of it everytime I go, whether it's to work or to get food--doesn't bother me really.

In anycase, that is a gorgeous car!

David,

Those look like Kinesis Supercup RS wheels. If so, are they 17" or 18"? They look awesome.

Thanks,

David, beautiful car. My sympathies from across the Tasman. Any good paint shop should be able to do a 100% repair on it. They fill the scratch with paint then buff the surface. Impossible to detect Enjoy the marvelous summer you guys are having. Bill.

First let me say I am sorry to hear about your car .

Second ,when the observer noted the scratches at the light you were doubtful ?. This was after you hit a brick pillar in the morning?????????. Did it just slip your mind? You should put up that top for a few days and get the sun off your head!!!!!!!

Thanks Bob,

A better term is glanced a brick pillar - the same one I miss by cm every morning. This time I forgot to miss - the glance was so slight I didn't feel it. Opps.

The sun is wonderful!!
