timing adjustment on a re-curved dist?

Hello everyone.
I have an '83 SC with a distributor that was re-curved some years back by the PO.
Does having a re-curved distributor mean your ignition timing adjustment is different than the manual procedure (5 deg BTDC with hoses off and plugged)?
The reason I'm asking is, I checked my timing and found it to be set at 10-15 deg BTDC. I adjusted it it back to 5 deg BTDC, the car runs great but I'm wondering if I should have left it alone because of the re-curve.
I thought the re-curve changed the slope as the engine rev's but have no clue if it's suppose to get set higher at idle.

Thanks for any help.

You should set the timing at 6000rpm and let the idle timing fall where it may. The timing at idle should be about the same with a re-curved distributor since it just changes when and how fast the advance comes in.
