timing adjustment on a re-curved dist?
Hello everyone.
I have an '83 SC with a distributor that was re-curved some years back by the PO. Does having a re-curved distributor mean your ignition timing adjustment is different than the manual procedure (5 deg BTDC with hoses off and plugged)? The reason I'm asking is, I checked my timing and found it to be set at 10-15 deg BTDC. I adjusted it it back to 5 deg BTDC, the car runs great but I'm wondering if I should have left it alone because of the re-curve. I thought the re-curve changed the slope as the engine rev's but have no clue if it's suppose to get set higher at idle. Thanks for any help. |

You should set the timing at 6000rpm and let the idle timing fall where it may. The timing at idle should be about the same with a re-curved distributor since it just changes when and how fast the advance comes in.
