If you know where #1 firing on the distributor is, and you know the firing order, and the direction of rotation of the distributor then you should be able to do it.

But then again I am not sure I understand the question....

HI Anna
remove the dist' cap and turn the engine by hand/spanner to Z1/tdc and check which way the rotor arm is turning, on the edge of the dist' is a notch/mark for No1 cylinder , the rotor arm should be pointing at it, then work round the cap in the firing order the same way the rotor was turning 1-6-2-4-3-5 with No1 on the left of the engine near the dist .

Hi Anna,

Welcome to the best Porsche BBS on earth. You will find there is lots of experience here.

To help us help you, please include your location in your profile. Also, it is customary to post some pictures of your car for our admiration.

Anyway, on to your question.

The cars firing order is 1-6-2-4-3-5. et your engine at TDC (there is a mark on your crank pulley). Verify the rotation direction and attach the wires appropriately.

For future reference, you are supposed to have decals in your engine compartment showing this and oterh critical information. More information can be found here: Where do all the stickers go?

Replacement stickers can be ordered from our host.(Pelican Parts - Product Information: 901-006-502-00-OEM)

Is it too late to ask for pictures?

Oh, and some pictures of the car would be nice too.
