'73 T VIN Question

The '73.5 T Targa I'm looking at, it's VIN # is 911311002. According to Peter Morgan's trusty, "Original Porsche 911", the US '73.5 Targas start at 911311001. Would you concur that the 911T Targa I'm looking at is therefore the second car? I'm guessing it is....

It sounds reasonable to me, Anthony. Which means, of course, that somebody will post & prove me dead wrong.

Porsche Crest

Well, per the spec book, that would definitely be the VIN for the 2nd coupe with the 'T-K' engine, but whether or not it was the 2nd car would depend on when the 1st CIS Targa was made!

Something's not right about that

I think you're missing a digit, there. My serial number is 9113103237, which breaks down as:

911 = model

3 = year

1 = T

0 = coupe

3237 = serial number

911311002 is a 911 from 1973 that's a T and a targa, but that only leaves 002, which is a digit short. 9113110002 would be the second 73 Targa.

I was given it wrong, I just checked the car: 9113111002. There was 1302 US spec Targas with CIS, so now I'm guessing it was car 1,002 of 1,302!

OOPS!
Jack is right about the missing digit, and there is another 'little' problem ... coupe sequential numbers began at 1501 ... 2nd coupe had VIN # 9113101502.

No, Saffs, I think you are dealing with the VIN of the 2nd 73.5 Targa built! The last one would have been 9113112303!

My 73.5 with CIS has VIN 91131120##. So I guess Early_S_Man is right, 2nd one.

Thanks, Warren, as ever! Makes it a little more special, huh?!
