Fuchs wheel scale model

I know it's a bit OT, but some recent experience with 3D modelling tools led me to try to come up with a nice Fuchs model paperweight. The pics below are my first prototypes.
The first was the one on the left, is made from "bronze infused stainless steel" and measures about 60mm. Seeing it in the flesh I realized the spokes were a bit too thin, so I enlarged them and made the one on the right.
This one is made from some kind of nylon mixed with aluminum particles and measures about 80mm.
This time I think the proportions worked reasonably right and it does look nice. However, being made from nylon, it's no use as a paperweight
Next, I'm going to paint it (an RSR finish maybe) and see how it turns out...

How did you make these? 3D Model maker - a laser and resin bath?

I used Shapeways, a 3D printer based in Holland.

I work at a prototype shop and have been drawing up a fuchs wheel to cnc machine in my spare time.

We also have SLA and SLS rapid prototype machines, which produce parts in various resins and polymers.

Did you do the CAD work for this wheel or did you find a 3d CAD file?

Post again when you have one painted.

I did the "face" using a 2D cad program (QCAD) and turned it into 3D and did the rim in Google Sketchup.

I have several of these Fuchs metal models from a few years ago made by AutoArt, although not sure if they are NLA.
