Where to purchase only the "duck"? I already have a fiberlas hood that is fitted to the car. Want to glas on a duck. All the recommendations above seem to be complete hoods. Can't justify re-fitting a new hood if I don't have to...

efhughes3 01-29-2010 07:24 PM

"Fitting" a quality (complete) tail is a lot easier than glassing on a "duck".

NineOhOne 01-29-2010 07:34 PM

OK.

So...can anyone tell me who supplies the "duck" without the lid?

not sure but that would require "minor fitment" , i have seen "bond on" skins but ????

OK. So I'm looking for the decklid "skin" that fastens to the inner decklid...?

The units I see advertised at Getty, RennSpeed et. al. are complete decklids, yes?

BoxsterGT 01-30-2010 03:13 AM

:)

Getty offers both a complete lid and a "bond on" version requiring much work. This "bonds" to & goes over the complete original factory lid.

However, the best still seems to be the one by Gary Stratton in Winter Park, FL. He uses only the original steel frame under their FRP duck. They cut the outer skin off, saving weight but keeping the strength & rigidity of the original.

It fits the first time without issues per lots of Pelican postings.

As soon as I can gather the funds, I will send him mine for the upgrade.

Here's the look I hope to achieve with mine..............

This is just spectacular in my opinion.

Here's another on a 993 that I really love..........

That was the original plan, but he doesn't want to work with my (already nicely fitted) glas decklid... :( Requires metal.

Bringing this one back...
Does anyone do an old style ducktail with an integral third break light that looks good?

BoxsterGT 02-19-2010 10:08 AM

:)

Here's another shot of the Ruf Duck. I hope someone will do one like this for the early cars.

I think this looks better than one on the new 2010 "Classic 911".

Just test fit a Rennspeed unit on my coupe,.... fits fine I guess, its a performance/Hotrod upgrade so some rawness is passable. Each hinge needed exactly one shim to fit right so I can't complain. Its definitely a meaner look. Now I need to take it off for paint.

A ducktail on a Targa just always looks wrong!

I have a steel based original RS tail on my 1973. When we did a full restoration we spent a long time working on it to make it fit right. The original RS ones can have a dodgy fit.

That's a personal opinion. Never safe to use the term "always" in making a statement. After many years of getting literally 100's of comments about my old Ruby, I wasn't the only one that thought it works.

Nachtfalter make sure you get a chin spoiler on there too...don't want to run a ducktail without a front splitter, is what I hear.

Ed, Ruby always looks amazing!

RSBob 08-03-2015 06:52 PM

Ed +1 and Ruby rocks.
