Early "S" Bumper
Does anyone know what the intended purpose of the early "S" bumper was? Did it work?

The purpose of the "S" bumper was to decrease the amount of front end lift on the 911 at high speed. It works quite well. You can get greater reductions by fitting different front bumpers/valences but you need to take into account aero balance when doing this. I believe that the "S" bumper is one of the few if not the only front aero device that Porsche fitted without the requirement of adding additional aerodynamic improvements on the rear of the car.

OE ones are north of $1k in price - I have a nice one but can't bear to part with it - even tho it is on a shelf, while a FG repro is on the car...
for those with a bumper car, then you can do some other things but will still be stuck with the platypus bill on top your '72 will thank you for an "S" bumper - I have to say the older style looks better to me tho also look at the front of the Singer car on that thread post what you are thinking of doing & people will get back to you... |
